A more subtle form of destruction is being perpetrated in the western world where faith, while not persecuted, is marginalised or rubbished. Imagine, if you can, the world in which we live without the influence of Christianity? Two of the most obvious deficits would be in the areas of music and architecture. Both contribute to our understanding of ourselves and our well-being as people. The skyline of our cities would be diminished and the inspirational dimension of music to lift us up would be diminished. Then of course there is the social teaching of the church in terms of charity toward others. English literature would be impoverished (an eye for an eye, being just one example) and social education would be more difficult. The influence of the Christian faith permeates all of society and it is our responsibility to maintain that. Why? Because it is important for us all- faith communities and general society. The Judaeo-Christian teaching about life has been, if not the most important, one of the most important factors in civilising the world. It is our heritage as well as our faith and we owe it to future generations to preserve the vision of the church for a truly just society where love for all and the invitation to belong is offered to all.
God bless you
